Freida Lee Homeratha, 69, passed away peacefully Monday evening at her home in Oklahoma City, September 10th , 5:45 pm. Freida Homeratha was born April 27th, 1949 to Curtis Homeratha and Louella”Black” Homeratha in Wichita, Kansas. She was the second to the youngest out of the five children Curtis and Louella shared. Freida L. Homeratha, Member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma comes from the Bear Clan. Frieda spent her life between Kansas and Oklahoma. She then graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1967. Freida began her adult life working in lawyer’s offices, until she became the secretary of the Otoe Missouri Tribe. Not too long after working for her people she then returned to begin her higher education at Northern Oklahoma College. Shortly after made the decision to transfer to Northeastern State University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating she then worked as a legal aide and then later to Department of Human Services. Freida then decided to give her services back to the Otoe Missouri Tribe. During that time she received numerous awards for her accomplishments while raising five children. To name some of her personal accomplishments she was most fond of are as follows; Student Body Vice President at Northeastern State, actively serviced the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Council in 1989 to 1992 as Tribal Secretary and thereafter devoted her time to tribal politics, then finally her most recent and prominent award she had received was AARP Indian Elder of the Year for 2016. She enjoyed participating in powwows in doing so Freida became a respected woman at the drum amongst the women singers. Freida was a strong advocate for Indian Education and advancement of Native peoples in higher learning. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren as often as possible. While being on the road to work, powwows or symposiums she would often be listening to her all time favorite Earth, Wind, and Fire. Another one of her favorite past times when Freida was not as busy would be watching Ancient Aliens. Throughout her years she is known as and respected as a hard working business woman amongst many whom have crossed paths with her. Freida Lee Homeratha was preceded in death by her son, James David Friday Jr. She is survived by her remaining four children; Son; Troy Friday, and Daughters; Shanna Friday, Chawee Ellis & Katherine Bueno. Also survived by her granddaughters; Checotah Friday, Jovana Friday, Elizabeth LeFlore, and Aurora Bueno.
