Mary Jo Couri, 78, passed from this life May 13, 2019, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Born January 1, 1941, in Ralston, Oklahoma, Mary was the daughter of Floyd and Bessie (Bright) Beagle. Attending Ralston Schools, Mary graduated with the class of 1960. During her childhood, Mary passed much of her time working on the family farm. In 1957, Mary met Barry Kenneth Couri of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and the two united in marriage January 3, 1960.
Mary left the farm to begin working for Cheatham’s Department Store in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She purchased a 1940s Ford car that did not have a starter to commute to work. The story is told, she would park facing downhill so it would roll start. In 1970, she began working at Pawnee National Bank. She worked there through its transition to Spirit Bank before becoming Armstrong Bank, working there till 2011. Mary began working at Wal-Mart in 2015 until her health would no longer allow her to.
Gardening, quilting, painting, and riding motorcycles were some things Mary enjoyed doing. TV Shows on the DIY channel and HGTV were shows Mary watched. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Pawnee.
Mary is survived by son Jo Barry and his wife Devree of Morrison, Oklahoma; grandchildren Daden, Madicyn, and Norman. She is survived as well by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary is preceded by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Vernon and Jack Beagle.
