John Milburn Pennah

John Milburn Pennah was born June 7, 1946, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of William Jack Pennah and Lillian DeRoin Pennah. He graduated Enid High School. John successfully earned his degree at Oklahoma State University in Commercial Arts. John was a very talented artist and loved to draw commercially and drew all forms of Native American scenes both present and the past. He also had a talent for bead working. John enlisted in the United States Army. He worked in the Medical Field in Dentistry with the Federal and Commercial Sectors. He was a medic at the Harbor View Hospital in Seattle, Washington. John was a Lab Tech at the Claremore Indian Health Services as well as a nursing assistant for the nursing home.

Johnnie passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017, peacefully in Pawnee, Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife Margarett Jim Pennah of Yakima, Washington; one son Scotty of Texas; one daughter Heather of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren Haley, Hannah, Preston, Tyler, Chole; many Comanche relatives, nieces, nephew and grandchildren in Oklahoma and from the Yakima Nation in Washington. Johnnie was proceeded in death by two sons Sean Pennah, Christopher Pennah, parents Jack and Lilly Pennah; paternal grandparents John and Susie Faw Faw DeRoin.

Johnnie is an enrolled member of the Comanche Nation and descendant of the Otoe-Missouria and Iowa Tribes. Johnnie had a great passion for sports and enjoyed supporting his niece Logan in softball and golf! He was an avid supporter of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Seattle Seahawks and OSU Cowboys. Johnnie loved eating salmon and huckleberries! His greatest longing was to hear Joshua, his nephew Preach which he hears now! He loved to visit his granddaughter Tiana Hunt from Yakima, who would come and visit all day long. Johnnie supported any and all activities his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren had an interest in!

Johnnie will be missed dearly by his family and friends, especially his love, devotion, strength, and knowledge of his culture and desire to see everyone taken care of. His words of encouragement will be greatly remembered by all of his sisters and brothers.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Tuesday at the Otoe-Missouria Community Building in Red Rock, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Otoe-Missouria Cemetery in Red Rock, Oklahoma. Prayer services will be held on Sunday April 30th at 7 pm as well as Monday May 1st at 7 pm in the Otoe-Missouria Community Building.
