Lorene E. (Hanger) Skidgel

Lorene Elaine Skidgel, age 94, passed away August 25, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by family.
She was born September 24, 1922 near Pawnee, Oklahoma to Charles Luther Hanger and Ella Hettenbach Hanger.
Lorene graduated from Pawnee High School in 1939 and then attended Tulsa Business College. On February 28, 1942, Lorene was married to Everette L. Skidgel in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Lorene lived most of her life in Pawnee and worked as a secretary for many years. She retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs on January 3, 1992 after almost 30 years of service. She had also worked for the Pawnee County Department of Public Welfare, the Pawnee County Attorney, for Judge Thurman Hurst, and American Insurance Agency in Tulsa.
Lorene has been a member of the First Baptist Church, Pawnee since 1947 where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees. Lorene volunteered at Southern Oaks Care Center and Red Cross Blood Bank for several years. She also volunteered at the Pawnee Elementary School, the Nutrition Site, and the Senior Citizen Center.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria Nunn and husband Roy of Moore, Oklahoma; and her son Steve Skidgel and wife Debbie of Choctaw, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Susan Harris and husband Paul of Oklahoma City, Kelly Stoabs of Oklahoma City, Drew Nunn and wife Beva of San Antonio, Texas; Misty Carver and husband Keith of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and Kristi King and husband Heath of Moore Oklahoma. Lorene is also survived by eleven great grandchildren - Riley Davis, Haley Avant and husband Hayden, Bentley Stoabs, Jacob Carver, Braden Stoabs, Cameron Nunn, Kelsey King, Jarett Carver, Lainey King, Jackson King, and Madison King. Great, great grandchildren include Carter Davis, and Brinlee Avant. Also surviving is her sister Beverly Bohlier and husband Bill, one nephew, Charlie Hanger, and three nieces Lori Fuller, Michelle Taylor, and Sandi Moorman. Lorene also has several great nieces, a great nephew, and many cousins.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Skidgel; son, Max Skidgel; her brother, Leslie Hanger; her parents, Charles and Ella Hanger; one sister Carmen Lucille Hanger, who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held August 29, 2017 at Poteet Funeral Home in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
