Barry Alan Steele

Dr. Barry Alan Steele, age 61, resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away March 16, 2016. He was born December 21, 1954 in Fairborn, Ohio. He was an anesthesiologist with Parish Anesthesia at Baton Rouge General. Son of an Air Force officer, Barry lived in England, Germany, and eventually settled in Burkburnett, Texas. He graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1973, Texas A&M University in 1976, the University of Texas at San Antonio Medical School in 1980, and completed his residency in Anesthesiology with the University of Oklahoma. An ardent Aggie, Barry was thrilled when Texas A&M joined the Southeast Conference.
Barry met Jan Gregory in 1980, in Oklahoma City while completing his residency and they were married in 1981. In 1983, they moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where they resided for the next 21 years. Barry practiced anesthesia, a profession he dearly loved, and never missed a day of work throughout his career. However, Barry's first love was his devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of Barry's life verses was 2 Timothy 4:7, ''I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.'' He served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon both at First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls then at Istrouma Baptist Church. He loved the Navigator Ministry, spending numerous summers with family at Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs. Throughout his life, he led small group Bible Studies.
Barry was devoted to his family, siblings, nieces and nephews, and extended family members. He was an outdoorsman, gardener, hunter, fisherman, lover of hiking, skilled crossword puzzle solver, mensa, the master of chocolate chip cookie, friend, mentor, teacher, and a man respected by his peers and loved by his family.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Ivan Steele and Ruth Marie Juedeman Steele. Barry is survived by his wife Jan, children, Melanie, Nathan, David and his wife Jamee.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, March 19th at 11 am at Istrouma Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, with a gathering for friends and family to pay their respect from 9 to 11 am at the church. Burial will take place in Pawnee, Oklahoma on Monday, March 21st.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barry's name to the Navigator's Ministry in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Explorer's Bible Study, P.O. Box 424 Dickson Tennessee 37056. Grateful thanks go to the Baton Rouge General Hospital staff in the ED, ICU, and Oncology Unit, and Dr. Mike Castine and his loving office staff who provided immense support to Barry and our family.
