Berthena Mai Green

February 2, 1941 — March 4, 2023

Berthena Mai Green

Berthena Mai (Caine) Green was born on February 2, 1941 to Grover and Betty Caine. She was the oldest of four siblings.

She married R.D. Green on the 21st day of March 1959. To this union were born four children; Ed, Randy, Tony, and Derel.

Berthena graduated Pawnee Schools and was a housewife to four boys, each a year apart. Can you imagine going to the grocery store with a 4 year old, 3 year old, 2 year old, and a 12 month old? Back then there were no daycares. But if anyone could handle it, it was Berthena. She was excellent and consistent about laying down the law, but doing it with love and compassion.

When the boys became school age, she went to work at the Pawnee Municipal Hospital where she learned the task of surgery tech and through the careful guidance of Dr. Jim and John Bolene she excelled as an x-ray technician. With the skills learned from the radiologists previously she took a position at the Drumright Hospital for four years before earning the position of x-ray supervisor for 20 years at Stillwater Medical Center.

Right in the prime of her career her husband R.D. and mother Betty grew ill and she retired early to take care of her family. This showing that for Berthena it has always been, God-Family-Career.

After a 10 year (retirement) vacation she felt the need to return to Stillwater Medical Center, not in x-ray but as an out-patient receptionist. Berthena worked this position for 11 years before retiring a second time in August 2022.

Berthena was initially a member of Antioch Baptist Church and later moved her membership to the Pawnee First Baptist Church in the year 2000 where she served on different committees. She retained wonderful friendships from both churches throughout her life.

Berthena was a wonderful supporter of her kids. She and R.D. followed their kids from high school sports through college sports and it did not stop there as they followed the grandkids in the same manner. Even when her kids or Grandkids were just coaching, she came and supported their teams as well. She has supported kids from all over the State of Oklahoma! She loved the outdoors as she and R.D. fished often and she also participated on a women’s fast-pitch softball team. Athleticism definitely runs in this family. She always claimed it started with her!

Berthena was preceded in death by her parents Grover and Betty Caine, her husband R.D. Green, and two sons, Tony and Derel Green. She also lost her two sisters Lucina and Norma Caine and brother Grover Caine.

She is survived by her son Ed and wife Wanda of Maramec, Randy and his wife Charaine of Pawnee. Grandchildren Ashley Green of Cleveland, Kelsie Green of OKC, and Chace Green of Cleveland. Six Great Grandchildren, Amier, Addison, Carter, Major, Marlee, and Bentlee. And a long long list of extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, texts, visits, food and the real love and support shown during this grieving time.
