Betty Delores Gripe

Betty Delores Gripe, a longtime resident of Maramec, Oklahoma, died Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years.

Betty was born on October 20, 1930, in Maramec. She was the daughter of Amos Eli and Harriet "Hallie" Addline (Longgrear) Ellis. Betty began her education and completed her studies in Maramec. Following high school, Betty attended the Moody Bible Institute in Illinois with her sister Mildred. Upon her return, Betty was united in marriage to Bobby Bruce Gripe on August 28, 1949. During the first years of their marriage, the two lived in several states due to Bobby’s job with the boilermaker’s union. They returned to Maramec where they raised their two children, Debora Kay and Daniel Ray. Betty worked with Bobby in the couple’s telephone company. Later she worked for Ermy’s and Cheatham Stores in Pawnee for many years until her retirement.

Betty was a very loving person who loved her family dearly. She was very active in the New Horizons, a home economist club and the Maramec United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School classes for young adults and youth for many years. Betty enjoyed quilting and sewing as well as working in the garden. Most of all in life, Betty was very proud of her children and her grandchildren and would do anything possible to help them.

Survivors are her husband Bobby of the home, daughter Debora Rolland of Maramec, son Dan Gripe and his wife Ginger of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one brother Milton Ellis and his wife Carol of Mulvane, Kansas; three sisters Mildred Brush of St. Louis, Missouri, Ramona Ellis and Sarah Shipp, both of Pryor, Oklahoma; five grandchildren Chris Gripe, Jennifer Gripe, Sarah Duncan, Justin Rolland, Angela Piotrowski; six great grandchildren Emily Roberts, J.J. Chapell, Lilly, Kenadi and Carmine Rolland, Sariah Frazier and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings Marjorie Keeton, Fern Caudle, James Carl Ellis and Mary Gardner.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Maramec United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Maramec Cemetery under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
