At the time of his passing, Buddy resided at the Broken Arrow Nursing Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was the son of William Arthur and Goldie Lee (Ballew) Richards .Preceding him in death were 3 brothers; James, Ray, and Carl: 3 sisters: Opal, Edna, and Billie, granddaughter Secrett Janay .Buddy married Joy Eshelman on February 15, 1958. They were married for 51 years when she passed on May 14, 2009.
Buddy is survived by five children, Tresa Dye, Pawnee; Patty Brumfield, Pawnee; GeNell Ward, Broken Arrow; Tabi Stevens, Pawnee; and Buddy Richards, Jr., Pawnee; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Buddy was a resident of the Pawnee County area. Born in Glencoe, Oklahoma, raised in Pawnee where he attended school and graduated Pawnee High School in 1955.
Buddy, along with his brothers, owned and operated Richards Dairy for many years, along with ranching and farming.
He served in the National Guard and served our Lord and Savior, Jesus. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. In his many years of service, he taught Sunday School, Royal Rangers, served on the Deacon Board and helped in many other areas.
Buddy was a fan of western movies, especially John Wayne. In his retirement years, he enjoyed sitting and watching an afternoon of westerns while eating ice cream. He loved having his family around him and was always prepared when the grandkids came over. He'd have Nutty-Bars or homemade Rice Krispy treats or oatmeal raisin cookies he had just baked. The grandkids always knew there would be a snack at Grandpa Bud's house.
He never knew a stranger and always lent a helping hand. He was loved, respected and will be missed by all.
Service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at the Assembly of God Church, Rev. Kirby Stevens officiating. Services were entrusted to Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services There will be no graveside service.
