Kathrine "Kitty" Stewart

Kathrine Joe “Kitty” Stewart, 70, passed from this life March 21, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born August 4, 1948, Kitty was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, to Joe Cephus and Ruth Ella (Calloway) Johnson. She grew up in Pawnee. Upon completion of her GED, Kitty became a Nurse Aide and began working at Pawnee Nursing Home. Later, Kitty worked at Rosewood Care Center, then Westhaven Nursing Home, both in Stillwater, as well as Home Health Services. Kitty valued her community and served on several boards as a result. She was a volunteer for the Pawnee County Free clinic for the past 15 years, where she also served as Vice President for Unity Healthcare Association Many of those around her described her as hard working.
Kitty cherished her time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was always very supportive, although she was strong-willed and stern. The family was always number 1, something her boys believe as well. “Be strong, and be there for one another,” she would say. Kitty loved watching westerns, especially Bonanza and Gunsmoke. And her soap opera The Young and The Restless. She loved to cook until her health wouldn’t allow her to. Potato salad, ribs, chicken, and sweet potato pie were always seen as family dinners.
Kitty is survived by her sons, Gary of Pawnee, and his wife Jennifer, Gregory of Pawnee, and his wife Dana, and Andrew of Oklahoma City, and his wife Suzanne; 10 grandchildren Trey, Darian, Unique, Avery, Macy, Annie, Moria, Ashley, Megan, Nicholas; 7 great-grandchildren Amaya, Maliyah, Taya, Aleighna, Preston, Grace, Hope; Sisters Leann Bell, Tammy Todd, Brothers, Cornelius Bell, Josh Bell; nieces and nephews, uncle Henry, uncle Alvin and aunt Bobbie. Preceding her in death are her parents, stepdad Cornelius Bell, son Gaylon Stewart, brothers James, Terry, and William Johnson; sister Ella Johnson, and a host of other relatives.
Visitation for Kitty will be held Thursday, March 28, 2019, and Friday, March 29, 2019, from 10:00 AM till 7:00 PM at Poteet Funeral Home Chapel. Services for Kitty will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 1:00 PM in the First Baptist Church in Pawnee. Kitty will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in the Lincoln Addition.
