Lorena Kihega DeRoin, 100 years old of Red Rock, Oklahoma passed away on August 8, 2015. Lorena was born in Noble County, Oklahoma on February 9, 1915 to George and Sarah Grace Hudson Kihega.  She was one of seven children.Lorena was married to Milburn DeRoin in 1935 and they were married 16 years until he was killed in an accident in 1951.  They had two children Logan and Melba.Lorena worked as a nurse's aide before she became an LPN and worked for the Tulsa Osteopathic Hospital and the Grandview Osteopathic Hospital in Ponca City.  She also worked for the Chilocco Indian School as a matron in the dormitory.  After retiring from Chilocco Indian School, Lorena went to work for the Otoe-Missouria Tribe.  She worked for the tribe for 32 years before retiring again at 98 years old.  She loved working and often told her family "never stop working because you need to keep your brain active".   She enjoyed playing bingo, attending tribal events and serving other people.  She was also actively involved with the American War Mother's and the Otoe-Missouria Tribe.  Lorena is survived by her son Logan DeRoin and wife Cathy, her daughter Melba Toppah and husband Ernest, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 13 great, great grandchildren, her brothers Ronald Kihega and Bob Kihega and a host of extended family and friends.Lorena is preceded in death by her parents: George and Grace Kihega, brothers, Richard Kihega and Gene Kihega, sisters Marian Kihega Stone and Priscilla Kihega Arkeketa, grandson Sean Toppah and granddaughter Renata Kelle.Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00am at the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Complex, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pawnee.
