Marjorie Marie Griesel Buchanan
Marjorie was born February 21, 1931 to William Leroy Griesel & Marjorie Liane Meeker Griesel. She was born the 4th child of 9 on her parents sixth wedding anniversary. Marjorie started school with the approval of the Prosperity School administration at the age of 4, and gradated Pawnee High School in 1947 as the Salutatorian of her class.
On April 25, 1948, Marjorie married the love of her life, Buck. After their union they lived next door to the Prosperity School south of Pawnee where she served as the cook for the school. From that occupation she shifted career paths and began her work as a bookkeeper with the Raymond Horn Oil, Co. based in Pawnee. Keeping with the book keeping profession she began working for Stillwater Floral. In the late 1960’s Marjorie decided to go to college to further her education. She carpooled with her son Calvin and friend Maxine Creager back and forth to Stillwater while she worked on her degree. She graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. After earning her degree, she began her teaching career at Olive School’s and eventually transferred to Pawnee where she remained for several years. During the time of her teaching, Marjorie re-enrolled at her Alma Mater and earned her Masters in Curriculum & Education Instruction in 1978. Around 1984 she moved on from teaching to become a legal secretary in Pawnee, and that job ultimately helped her find her final position at United Community Action Program. She worked there from 1985 until 1996 when she finally decided to retire. During her “retirement” she began her civic contributions. She wrote news paper columns for the Pawnee Chief and Stillwater News Press. She was the organist for the First Christian Church as well as the Episcopal Church in Pawnee. Marjorie was a member of the OSU Extension Clubs, PANDORA, and New Horizons as well as a member of the Pawnee County Cattlemen’s Association, Pawnee County Cattlewomen’s Association, and Kappa Delta Pi Sorority. One of the things that brought her the most joy though later in life was reading her “Biscuit” Books to the kids as school.
