Robert Dwayne Iron

Bobby Iron was born on September 22, 1949 in Pawnee, Oklahoma and passed away on November 28, 2018 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was an enrolled member of the Crow Nation of Montana (Ties in the Bundle), but was also a descendant of the Pawnee Nation (Kitkahaki band) His parents are the late Theodore Iron and Daisy Chapman Iron Miller. Siblings include the late Cheryl Iron Hunter, Edward (Ruth), Janice, Kenneth Miller Jr., and Kimberly Miller Kowena (Guy), along with numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends

He was raised in the Pawnee area and attended elementary school there. His family moved to Brigham City, Utah in 1962. He attended Jr. high school and two years of high school there before he and his family returned to Pawnee where he graduated. Bobby also went to Okmulgee Technical College before he was drafted into the military in 1968: US Army 11th Armored Calvary Regiment. He was sent to Vietnam where he served as a machine-gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He then held a variety of jobs in California and Colorado mainly as a printer.

Bobby lived in Fort Collins with his wife, Jan. Their blended family include children Karla, Robert, Christopher, Nicole, Zachary (Lynette), Dwayne (Nicole), and Cheryl (Cody). The grandchildren are Kayne, Jayla, Kyce, Amaya, Mariah, Jacob, Nezih, Nini, Harmony, Mistyrose, Wakeen, and Lorenzo Robert. His grand pups are Kuruks and Daisy. His grandchildren were the loves of his life, the apples of his eye.

Bobby loved to sing at the big drum and attributes many positive changes in his life as a result. In the early 1990's Bobby and friends from the surrounding area formed a drum group called Kitkahaki Singers which later changed to Pawnee Spotted Horse. The group consisted of the fathers and their sons: Bob, Dwayne, Zach, Walter Echohawk Sr., Bunky, Anthony, late Phil Minthorn, Bryan Hodshire Sr., and all their wives. The group served as host drum many times throughout Colorado. As singers moved on with their lives, Bob most recently sang with his sons drum group "Bad Company". Bob also made a great impact among the Navajo and Ute people as he shared his knowledge of songs with them. He was well known and highly respected throughout the Indian country. He always said that if you take care of the drum, it will take care of you and open many doors for you. He was also always thankful for the women singers and held them in high regard.

Bobby loved to travel and visit. Through the drum he made many friendships and always acknowledged people and made them feel welcome and at ease. He loved life and loved to laugh. He was very comical and loved to tease/terrorize. He will definitely be missed and we thank our Creator for sharing him.
