Wanda Lee Dollarhide

Wanda Lee Dollarhide passed away peacefully Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee, Ok. She was born in Hennessey, Oklahoma as the first New Year’s baby in 1940. She was the daughter of Vivian Brown and Hubert Ream. Wanda was the oldest of four children. She and her family lived in Fairfax, Ok where she graduated high school in 1958.
Her parents owned the Palace grocery store in Fairfax where she met the love of her life, Lee Dollarhide. Lee and Wanda married on January 11, 1958 and later had two daughters, Lee Ann and Vicki. Wanda wore many caps in her lifetime but finished her life's work at Oklahoma State University in the Agricultural Economics Department where she retired in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hubert and Vivian; stepfather Leon Allen; siblings Charlene Summy, Butch Allen, and Dennis Allen. She is survived by her husband Lee Dollarhide; children and spouses; LeAnn (Tom) Labron, Morrison, Ok, Vicki (Don) Knecht, Emory, TX; grandchildren; Justin Knecht and family of San Antonio, TX, JC Knecht of Los Alamos, NM, Kailee Holmes and family of Stillwater, OK, Hailee LaBron of Stillwater, OK, Whitney Knecht of Emory, TX; great grandchildren; Elaina, Easton, Jacobi, Brooks, and Lariat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wanda is known for her big heart. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would proudly boast about all her children and grandchildren. In her final breaths she was heard still talking about her loved ones.
She was an outgoing and fun-loving woman who enjoyed the company of her friends and family. You would most often find Wanda with her valued best friend, Evelyn Calkins. Evelyn was someone Wanda could have fun with, trust and confide in, and the first person she would call with good news or to go out for a bite to eat. Wanda loved watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities. She was a dedicated sports fan and attended many football, softball, and basketball games where she always ensured that any child who crossed her path was fed and happy. In her early years, she spent countless hours volunteering at concession stands and sponsoring her children's events. She was a loyal and die-hard Oklahoma State fan and enjoyed watching and talking with her family about the games.
Wanda and her husband, Lee, both loved to travel and owned a travel trailer that was like a second home. They spent much of the summer on the road. They belonged to the Good Sam’s Club and took great delight in being involved with other campers who quickly became family to them. Wanda especially loved the mountains and visiting Colorado.
Wanda was a wonderful grandmother, one who never really grew old. Wanda taught us that when you love, love hard. There was love in everything she did. She will be missed by family and numerous friends, but her love lives on.
