Francis “Rusty” William Atkins
Rusty was born March 31, 1966 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He grew up in Stillwater and graduated from SHS in 1984. He obtained his bachelors and masters degrees from Oklahoma State University. His teaching career spanned from Highland Park, to Stillwater High School, and Indian Education Coordinator. Rusty enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his bike, eating tacos, picking weeds, OU athletics, eating popcorn, thunder basketball, coaching, skiing, and playing with his granddaughters. Rusty was a proud member of the Pawnee Nation and the Otoe-Missouria Tribe. He is survived by his wife Dee Atkins, his daughter Callie Dohe, his son-in-law Chandler Dohe, granddaughters Adley and Mailey Dohe, and his mother Elfrieda Atkins. He is preceded in death by his Father Jim Atkins. Rusty was known by many names. Son, Father, Husband, Coach A, unc, Francis, Cheese, Ka’dah, but his favorite was T-Pa. The Memorial Service will be held Sunday August 3rd at 2:00 PM at University Heights Baptist Church with burial following at Otoe-Missouria Tribal Cemetery in Red Rock, Oklahoma. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Stillwater high school track and/or cross country student-athletes; Scholarship selection will be based primarily on leadership, character, service, and pioneer pride.
