Georganna Adams Childress, was 83 at her passing on April 4, 2023. She was born in Ponca City on June 12, 1939 to Della Mae and C.G. “Bill” Adams of Pawnee, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sisters, Janette Brown and Lanette Henry, and brother Charles Adams. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Bob, her son Charles “Chuck” and wife Holly of Morrison, Oklahoma and daughter Shaun and husband Bradley Lee, of Edmond, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Garrett, Sarah, Della and Lillian Childress of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Alec Lee of Singapore, Will, Miranda, Mila and Archie Childress of Newalla, Oklahoma, a brother, Grover “Bud” Adams and wife Phyllis of Altus, Oklahoma, a sister Sandra and husband Jon Reigles of Boise, Idaho and a sister Dora Mae Hayes of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins scattered around Oklahoma and the country.

Georganna attended Diamond Laird Elementary under the guidance of her teacher/grandmother, and Pawnee High School, graduating in 1957. She attended Ponca City Hospital School of Nursing, (formerly St. Joseph School of Nursing), Ponca City, OK graduating and passing the State Board of Nursing exam, becoming a registered nurse. She worked for the Pawnee Osteopathic Hospital, Pawnee, Oklahoma, the PHS Indian Hospital, Pawnee, Oklahoma and the PHS Indian Hospital, Claremore, Oklahoma, where she met Bob, and they married. For the next 29 years she followed Bob around the country (Pine Ridge, SD, Fort Yates, ND, Rapid City, SD, Gallup, NM) and eventually returning to Oklahoma settling in Edmond in 1971. She was devoted to raising the children and supporting the family plus working as a surgical nurse in Gallup, NM.

In Edmond, she worked for the Edmond Public Schools as an aide with special needs children and later as a nurse in Dr. Mike Herndon’s office and filling in part time at Parson’s Jewelry. During these years in Edmond, she actively participated in “Modern Homemakers OHCE” having served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President, and President multiple years. Her passion for sewing motivated the group to provide Christmas stockings for “Grandparents having to raise their grandchildren” plus mental health and veteran’s programs. They also made baby quilts for the Infant Crisis Center and other projects. In 2018, she was recognized as the Modern Homemakers OHCE Oklahoma County Member of the Year and also the Oklahoma Home and Community Education, Oklahoma County, Outstanding Member of the Year. She dedicated her life to helping others: patients, family, adults, and children.

There will be a memorial service on April 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK. In Pawnee, there will be a viewing on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 7-9 p.m., at Poteet Funeral Home, 600 Illinois Street. On Saturday, April 15, 2023, there will be a service at First Christian Church, 900 6th Street, at 10:00 a.m., with interment following at Highland Cemetery.
