Gerri Marie EchoHawk made her final journey on March 16th, 2021 to take her place among the stars and be with loved ones who have traveled on before her. She was an enrolled tribal member of the Kit-Ka-Haki Band of the Great Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma. She was born on May 20th, 1960 in Pawnee, Oklahoma at the Pawnee Indian Hospital to Myron Duane and Marie Joyce (Tonemah) EchoHawk. She was blessed upon arrival with having an older brother David Duane EchoHawk to guide, protect, and walk this earthly journey with her and their youngest brother George Thomas EchoHawk II.
Growing up they moved to different locations where their parents’ careers drove them. These destinations provided numerous opportunities and experiences on which she often reflected. As she ventured out into the world, she made the decision to get a college education to better her life. She succeeded in graduating from Northern Oklahoma College as a registered nurse. Her caring attitude and genuine desire to help nurture and heal contributed to her reputation for being an excellent asset in the health community. She was always concerned about the welfare of others and how she could help enrich others. This eventually helped sway her decision to run for the Pawnee Nation Business Council. She was elected to serve as council seat #3. She made it a point to serve with great earnestness for her Pawnee people. She was a part of several major projects that came into existence. One concern for her was the outdated Pawnee Indian Hospital and the need for a new facility to accommodate patients. She was extremely excited when the Pawnee Indian Health Center was completed. She eventually decided to not seek another term for business council and accepted an RN position with the Pawnee Indian Health Center.
Her commitment, empathy, and concern for others gave her the natural ability to touch many people's lives in a profound way. Gerri Marie loved life and her love for others was truly a gift. When she was not being a career woman, she enjoyed several hobbies. She loved to bead and enjoyed every aspect of the creative process and her finished projects. Sewing also piqued her interest and she excelled in that as well. She enjoyed making elaborate quilts into which she stitched love and positive thoughts and prayers. Gerri Marie was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, nieces, nephews and embraced every moment of motherhood. An even greater role she took very seriously was being a grandma. She loved having a big family and cherished them dearly.
Gerri Marie is survived by her children: Davi Anne Ferris (Arthur Daugomah); Marie MorningStar Eppler; Thomasine Alexis Eppler; Lori Michelle Horn; Kyle Jack Horn (Ashley Childs).
