Corky was born on February 23, 1937 in the Big Bend Area just south of the Belford Bridge, on the Curtis Homestead. He was the third of seven children of Jerry Merlin Nix and Mavis Juanita Curtis. In his childhood, he enjoyed spending his time with his Grandpa James Jackson Curtis and Grandma Ora Jane Curtis. He loved hunting and fishing on the Arkansas River with his Grandma. He learned many skill sets from his Grandparents while his Father was off at war. He grew up spending most of his youth in the Ralston area attending school in Ralston and Nowata. He graduated from Ralston and married his High School Sweetheart Wanda Louise Rice on December 24, 1955. They were blessed with 68 years together. They had four children; Linda Louise Baker of Denton, Texas, Gina Annette Eads of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Roger Brooks Nix of Morrison, Oklahoma, and Lisa Lee Wilson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Corky enjoyed many sports, but loved teaching his children to play basketball. He spent countless hours shooting hoops with his children on the basketball court that he built in the early 70's. When he had grandchildren, he enjoyed going to watch their baseball and basketball games. Corky's skill trade, back then was building homes, churches, and schools with his father in the Fairfax, Ralston, Pawnee, Perry, Ponca City, and the Stillwater areas. When his father retired, Corky started farming and cattle ranching. He continued farming activities right up to his passing on October 6, 2024 at the age of 87. Corky leaves behind a large loving family, including his wife Wanda; his brother Bud Nix of Perry, Oklahoma; sisters Donna Phillips of Duncan, Oklahoma and Pam Jarvis of Afton, Oklahoma; his four children; fifteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. Corky was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sue Rose, a brother Gerald Nix, and a granddaughter Macie Baker. Services will be held Thursday 2:00 P.M.
