Harold Eugene McAlister, born on April 12, 1936, to Eugene “Gene” McAlister and Helen Louise (McClain) McAlister, passed away peacefully at home on June7, 2025. Harold was raised in Pawnee, attended Lone Jack School, Mound Center, Pawnee Elementary School, and graduated from Pawnee High School in 1954.
In 1957, Harold married Norma Yvonne Duff, and together they raised four children: Chris, Debbie, Mark, and Jon.
Harold began his working life at Emily Mills. He later became an autobody technician at Moss Chevrolet, before discovering a knack for home contracting, where he lived up to his nickname “Termite”. His professional journey also took him briefly into the oilfield, but he found long-term fulfillment working at Ditch Witch as a machinist, where he spent many years and formed enduring friendships.
In 1983, he married Donna, who had two children Roy Monk and Charlotte Stukenborg. He and Donna opened Northside Mini Storage and enjoyed doing business and interacting with their customers. Donna remained his loving wife and companion for the rest of his life.
Harold was deeply connected to the Pawnee community. He was an enthusiastic supporter of local traditions, rarely missing the Steam Engine Show, the Wild West Show, or the Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo. As a regular at the local coffee shop, he loved discussing the latest town “news” and visiting with his friends. A skilled woodworker and avid hunter, Harold loved the outdoors and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Helen McAlister, and his son, Chris McAlister. He is survived by his wife, Donna, his children Debbie McClellan, Mark McAlister, Jon McAlister and his wife, Susie, his sister Oneta Stamper, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all carry on his memory.
Harold’s legacy is one of dedication, humor, craftsmanship, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
