James Owen Mitchell, born June 23, 1953, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 72. A devoted father, good friend, and man of deep faith, James lived a life marked by service, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to the people and communities he loved.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and James Mitchell, and his brother, Phillip Mitchell. He is survived by his children—James Mitchell, Margaret Beeler, and Rebecca Henry—and six grandchildren, who brought him pride and joy.
A man committed to serving his country, James spent 10 years in the National Guard and an additional 13 years in the Army Reserves. He was a longtime Cub Scout leader and later a Scoutmaster for his son’s Boy Scout troop. He was also a Master Mason in the Free Masons, valuing fellowship and tradition.
Professionally, James worked for many years as a welder before beginning a long and fulfilling career as an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base.
James was a devoted Christian and spent time as a youth minister. He had an insatiable curiosity—if something captured his interest, he would learn everything he could about it. He also had many collections, and appreciated classic films, especially martial arts, westerns, and science fiction.
Above all, James will be remembered for his spirit, his love for his family, his onery streak, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him.
