James "Jim" R. Toahty passed away Saturday surrounded by his loving family. He was a compassionate, caring and generous man with a wonderful sense of humor. He had a heart for people, loved his animals, music, football, family and country. He made friends easily and was loved by all. He was born July 31, 1948 at Pawnee Indian Hospital to Ralph Weeks Toahty and Juanita Michell Toahty. He was a devoted father to son Ralf W. Toahty III and daughter Tobie Lynn Toahty. He loved his family, including his brothers David Toahty and Roe Toahty; his sisters Terrye Toahty and Gennie Clanin; and his many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins. James is the grandson of Libby Weeks Taylor and great grandson of Ralph Weeks and great, great grandson of White Eagle. US Marine Corps Veteran, wounded in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. He received the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge. He was also a member of the Pawnee Indian Veterans Club. He graduated from Midwest City High School were he was a Bomber football player, class of 1966. He earned a degree from the University of Oklahoma in Special Education and from Oscar Rose Junior College for Broadcasting and Journalism. He was a disc jockey known as Tobey James and producer at numerous radio stations including KTOK Sports Talk. He was a talented DJ at the So Fine Club and had his own fan club. Also, he worked along side his father at their carpet store where he opened an accredited trade school. He was a member of the Pawnee tribe. He enjoyed attending and gourd dancing at Indian dances and powwows at Indian Hills and various places but especially loved the Pawnee Veteran's Day dance. He is preceded in death by his twin brother Gerald Toahty, father Ralph Weeks Toahty, brother Ralph Weeks Toahty, Jr., brother Joseph Toahty and grandmother Libby Weeks Taylor.
