Joy Ann Webb

Joy Ann( Brewer) Webb was born at home in Pawnee County ½ mile East of Victor School on December 1, 1936, to her parents Hoyte Elbert (Bud) Brewer and Stella Loretta (Dillett) Brewer. She attended Victor School, a one room schoolhouse, for 8 years before going on to attend 4 years of High School in Pawnee. She graduated High School in 1954.

She learned two passions from her mother, cooking and sewing; although she credited her Home Economics teacher, Miss Myrtle Thomas, with teaching her a great deal about both of these pursuits. She was always proud of the way her mother was able to take a little and make a lot. Her mother was good at cooking and cake decorating. Joy wrote out a story of the time her mom asked her what kind of cake she wanted for a birthday: “I remember I asked her to make me an airplane, and she did!” She also wrote out the story of her father growing cotton and she always had to help pick the crop. “One time he let me have a small cotton patch of my own. It made me $50.00! I wanted to buy a new bicycle, but Dad didn’t want me to (I don’t know why.) So, before I had spent all the money, I bought a used one for $12.00.”

She came to Faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior while attending a revival at the Victor School house in 1954. Grandma Joy lived her Faith for the rest of her earthly life and was proud of being the, “Only active charter member of the Masham Baptist Church” up until her death. She was always quietly active in giving to folks who had need as she felt God lead her to do so. She contributed to many causes, Camp Lela, mission trips, people who she knew needed help, and her own Church through her tithe. She literally made thousands of pairs of underwear that she sent all over the world on mission trips that her daughter and granddaughter were on.

She married William George Webb on June 9, 1956. Two years later Joy and Bill were blessed with the birth of their son, William Wayne Webb in 1958 and then 4 years later their daughter Cindy Ann Webb in 1962.

The story of Grandma Joy would not be complete without the mention of her love of Pecans. She wrote a small account of her life that she titled, “Pecans, Pecans, Pecans: True Stories and Recipes.” Her love of pecans was well known as were her candies that she called Oklahoma Millionaires (She won first place in the County Pecan show and the State Pecan show with this candy.), a very closely guarded recipe, and no she did not include the recipe for the candy in the booklet. In fact, she did not actually include any recipes in the booklet.

Joy Ann Webb passed from this life to her Heavenly home on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband William George Webb, her daughter Cindy Ann May and her son William Wayne Webb. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be laid to rest in the Masham cemetery next to her husband William George Webb.
