Mitchell “Mitch” LeRoy Childs was born August 11, 1950 to John J. and Rachel Daily Childs.  He entered his eternal life on December 3, 2023 with his loving wife (of 27 years) Mary Ballesteros Childs by his side. He was a proud member of the Eagle Clan of the Otoe Missouria Tribe.  Xra Sage (Old Eagle) was the name given to him by his uncle Mark Whitehorn.  Mitch worked various jobs in his lifetime but the one that he was most proud of was serving his country in the US Marine Corps and the US Navy.  Mitch was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corp.  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was a proud member of the Bravo Company Force Recon.  Prior to his military duty he attended school at Red Rock High.  In 2000 he and his wife made their home in Enid, OK.  He loved to watch and cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and the OSU Cowboys.  Mitch loved to spend his time going on long drives with Mary, getting ice cream at Dairy Queen, visiting casinos, reading, playing golf, and his biggest love was shopping.  Mitch would spend countless hours taking care of, playing with, and loving his pets Chloe, Thay Way, and Oreo.  Mitch loved to take his brothers to eat or pick up their favorite meals and surprise them.  He made sure they were taken care of even as his own health declined.

Mitch is survived by his wife Mary, brother Charles Childs of Red Rock, sister Barbara (Jim) Walton of Enid, adopted sons Kyle and Al'de Robedeuax, adopted daughters Tish Atkins, Gabe Black, Betty Littlecrow, and Gina McBlair, father in law Joe Ballesteros, brother in laws John, Bobby, Josea, Hiram, Johanne “the smurf” Ballesteros, and sister in law Joann Ballesteros as well as many nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Johnny, Don, Hank and Dieter Childs, sisters Carol and Shirley Childs, and Debbie Coffey.

Mitch will be laid to rest at the Ft Gibson National Cemetery in Ft Gibson, OK on December 7, 2023.  Evening services will take place December 5th and 6th at 7:00 pm at the Otoe Cultural Building in Red Rock, OK.  A viewing will be held December 7th at 10:00am.

Mitch will be remembered for his smile, his love for his family, his BUHS, and the inspiration he provided to others.
