Sandra "Sandy" Bernadette (LeClair) Howell

Sandra Bernadette ‘LeClair’ Howell passed away Wednesday. May 14, 2025, at 1:38 p.m. at Stillwater Medical Center, she was 76 years old.

Sandy was born February 23, 1949, in the Pawnee Indian Hospital to Pete (Edward) LeClair and Ada Rose ‘Grant’ LeClair. Sandy was raised in White Eagle, OK, graduating from Chilocco Indian School in 1967.

She was an enrolled member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma. She lived in Tulsa during her early years, working at Ross Martin Paper Printing Company. She was an avid bowler in an all-Indian League. Later, she moved back to Ponca City to live with her mother and be around family.

In 1986 she met and married Jesse ‘Dumps’ Howell and moved to Pawnee and has been a lifelong resident since. She met and became friends with Dana Nuttle, Marilyn Nuttle, Darrell Moore, Yvonne Fletcher, and Virginia LittleSun, Cody Venable, Jerry Rowland, Gordy Warrior, Austin RealRider and Karen and Sharon Haymond.

She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Sandy was a loving and caring woman, who touched many lives throughout her life. She will be greatly missed.

Sandy is survived by her sons Kendall Snake and Doug Tilden. Grandchildren; Kendall Dale Snake, Dylan Ives, Jayiah Collins-Peters, Davien Nuttle and Delores Long. Great-grandchildren;  Lilianna Horsechief, Lanae Nuttle, Jazten Bass, Addy Bass, and Emmy Bass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Ada LeClair. Brothers; Ed Charles LeClair Sr., Jesse Levi Leclair St., Frank LeClair Sr., Arlington LeClair Sr., Rex Pierre LeClair, and Algemon ‘Dale’ LeClair. Sisters; Iris ‘Sugar’ LeClair, and Judith ‘Sherry’ LeClair. Adopted sisters and brothers; Rose LaVern LeClair, Sherry LeClair, and Pete LeClair. Adopted daughter; Robin Williams, and adopted Granddaughter, Amber Bass.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the interment Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 10a.m. with Rev. Jim White officiating ,in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery.
