Obituary for Stella Corrine Peters (OnlyAChief)
Stella Corrine Peters (OnlyAChief), 65, a proud member of the Chaui Band of the Pawnee Nation, returned to the stars on May 12, 2026
Stella was born on August 11, 1960. She was a woman deeply rooted in her heritage and her community in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Known to many as a pillar of the Peters and OnlyAChief families, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, tradition, and love.
Stella was known for her others-first heart. She spent her life caring for everyone around her more than she ever cared for herself, always stepping in to help before she was even asked. But perhaps what many will remember most is her laughter. Stella loved to laugh; it was a joyful, infectious sound that lit up every room she walked into. She believed in finding a reason to smile, and she shared that gift freely with her family and her people.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Darwin “ Don” Peters and Rosanna Norman Peters, Her beloved daughter,Lakota

"We chose this poem because it captures the happiness Momma gave to all of us—a happiness so deep that words can hardly describe it. It speaks to the hole left in our hearts, but also to the peace she deserves. When you hear these words, remember her selfless spirit and that trademark laugh that she used to light up our lives. This is our prayer for her."
May You Always Walk In Sunshine
May you always walk in sunshine
and God’s around you flow,
for the happiness you gave us,
no one will ever know.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you did not go alone,
a part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
A million times we needed you,
a million times we’ve cried.
If love could only have saved you,
you never would have died.
The Lord be with you and may you rest in peace
