Wanda Louise (Rice)Nix

Wanda Louise Rice was born on June 24, 1937, in the Big Bend area, in the home of Ernest and Daisy (Rainey) Rice. She was their first grandchild and was raised in Ralston, Oklahoma, where she lived all her life.

Wanda was the oldest of three children born to Maxine Revae Hines and Orlean Luther Rice, longtime residents of Ralston. She graduated from Ralston High School, where she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Gilbert “Corky” Morris Nix. The two were married on December 24, 1955, and shared 68 wonderful years together before Corky’s passing.

Wanda and Corky were blessed with four children: Linda Louise Baker of Denton, Texas; Gina Annette Eads of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Roger Brooks Nix of Morrison, Oklahoma; and Lisa Lee Wilson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Their family continued to grow, and Wanda became a beloved grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Wanda was deeply rooted in the Ralston community and was active in many organizations throughout her life. She was a member of Ralston Bible Church, the Senior Citizens organization, the Historical Society, the Fun Club, and the Red Hat Society. She also devoted her time to raising funds for a children’s hospital and was always looking for ways to give back to others and support her community.

Wanda had a creative spirit and enjoyed painting on wood and ceramics, as well as creating beautiful flower arrangements. These hobbies were another reflection of the creativity and joy she brought into the lives of those around her.

For over 23 years, Wanda ran the Ralston Tag Agency. In addition to her work at the tag agency, she sold Oklahoma Farmers Insurance and collected the town’s utility payments. Through her work, she became a familiar and trusted face in the Ralston community.

Wanda leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her sister, Nancy Revae Baugh of Edmond, Oklahoma; her four children; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert “Corky” Morris Nix; her parents, Maxine Revae Hines and Orlean Luther Rice; her brother, Orlean Robert “Bob” Rice; and her granddaughter, Macie Lynette Baker.

Wanda will be remembered for her deep love of family, her devotion to her community, her creative spirit, and the many lives she touched throughout her years in Ralston. Her memory will live on through the generations of family and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
